Event Details:
- Date: Saturday, December 7th
- Time: 11: 55 am - 2 pm
The commemoration will begin with a wreath laying by the Pearl Harbor Wall followed by a presentation in the Historic Nimitz Ballroom from Dorinda Nicholson, author of Pearl Harbor Child: A Child's View of Pearl Harbor - From Attack To Peace.
Nicholson was born in Hawaii to a Hawaiian mother and Caucasian father. As civilians, they were living in Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack, and stayed until they were forced to give up their home after the end of the war. Her book tells the story of being a child living in the middle of Pearl Harbor during the attack on December 7, 1941. She recalls what it is like to carry a gas mask everywhere, to have bomb shelters on the school play ground, curfews and blackouts, and barbed wire everywhere.
Following the presentations wrap up at 12:40 pm, attendees will be invited to stay for a book signing from Nicholson and the chance to participate in educational activities for the whole family such as making origami Cranes, an engaging story time segment, and coloring pages until the events closure at 2 pm.
