*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 10/14/2018
The Puerto Rican Cultural Center - in partnership with the Texas State Parks & Wildlife -- are proud to host the 10th Anniversary Gathering celebrating Taino Heritage in Texas with the Concilio Taino Guatu Macu A Boriken.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

The Gathering will fly the elected Chief, Cacike Cacibaopil Veguilla of Concilio Taino and Abuela Balanani direct from Boriken (Puerto Rico) for an outside-the-classroom experience in Taino heritage and traditions. Tribal members from Texas and beyond will join the Elders and share knowledge on oral history, Earth-friendly living, traditional healing, and activities for the whole family.

The Fall Harvest -- Casabe Ceremony -- will be celebrated, as well as the ceremonial ballgame of Batu. And YES -- there will be Areyto, Taino ceremonial dance for all to participate in.

Bring your beach chairs and mark your calendars for two days of distinct activities. The gathering is free, BUT there is a small fee to enter the State Park. Activities will take place at the Dining Hall and Amphitheater as appropriate. More information coming this Fall.

NOTE: You will want to bring your refreshments and plenty of water. There are no vendors at this event.

The 2017-2018 10th Anniversary Taino Experience Project is sponsored in part by the Texas State Parks & Wildlife Department, and Humanities Texas, the state agency for the National Endowment of the Humanities. The Puerto Rican Cultural Center's season of outreach is sponsored in part with funding and support through the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
